Campus Westend

Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität

The site of the former IG Farben factory, a firm tightly connected to the Nazi's production of chemical weapons, was occupied by the US-military before the intention to implement new faculties of the University of Frankfurt. The program includes public spaces such as libraries, auditoriums and a canteen as well as commercially used areas.

The project bases on the idea of dynamic urban processes taking into account various patterns of influence. To control these complex, dynamic influences was the main aim of the design approach.

A surface considered as a multi-programmed topography called 'campus scape' as well as islands figuring as faculty areas allow for a highly flexible planning process without ever losing the project's formal and programmatical consistency.
